<image:title>Meet Stu - Stuart Wilson: Activism and Art</image:title>
<image:caption>Nearly ten years ago, my wife Nicky and I moved to Warwick after having our first child. We soon fell in love with our neighborhood. It’s beautiful, walkable, and full of wonderful people. I’ve taken some time away from my career as an artist to raise our wonderful children, Henry (9) and Calvin (6). They now both attend public school at E. T. Wyman Elementary, leaving me with more time for my work (I design Chemistry International) and activism. I’m an enthusiastic member of the PTO at Wyman, and I love volunteering at the many wonderful events they’ve been able to offer for students. I’ve also started teaching comedy in the afterschool program they offer. Schools are a reflection of the community: teachers, students, parents, administrators, and neighbors. If we don’t put in effort, the institution will crumble. Closing a school has dire consequences on a community that no spreadsheet can reflect. I love our life here, and I know that we must stay active to ensure the continued success for our city. It would be all too easy to assume that schools, streets, and our environment will continue along without any help, but that is not the case. I was born in Providence. My father started his own small metal-casting shop in Pawtucket; my mom was a hospice nurse. I grew up in Rehoboth, MA, and attended UMass Dartmouth where I earned a BFA in visual design. After a stint in newspaper production and journalism, I left the cubicle life for the performing arts. I worked for many years with a local puppet company, where I discovered my love of teaching. I’ve worked in education throughout the state, teaching with organizations like ¡Providence CityArts!, The Gamm Theater, Ella Risk Elementary School in Central Falls, and now E.T. Wyman. I’ve seen the challenges facing schools, and I’m passionate about doing the work to ensure a quality education for the children of all families in Rhode Island. I’ve taken less acting roles since having kids, but I still perform regularly in the Empire Revue variety show at AS220, and I will be appearing in Small Mouth Sounds at The Wilbury Theatre Group in 2026. To my neighbors, I’m a handy person who can be relied on to fix a fan, build some shelves, or watch their kids in a pinch. This is the energy I want to bring to City Council.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Warwick in 2026</image:title>
<image:caption>I have some exciting news to share today: After much discussion with my family, I have decided to re-enter the political arena in 2026. I will be seeking to represent Ward 1 in the Warwick City Council. Since running for office in 2020 and 2022, I’ve had 4 years to continue listening to my neighbors: friends, other parents, teachers, and students. Their opinions, ideas, and concerns are the ones that I will carry to the City Council. Warwick Schools are at a crossroads, and we need someone on the City Council who understands that. Someone who values education, and the communities that are built around our schools, not just fiscal efficiency. I’m invested in our public schools. My kids attend E.T. Wyman, and I teach there in the after-school program as well. The School Budget has become a hot button issue, but I think there are larger budgeting issues at hand in our city and state, and it’s important that we don’t let our schools and the children and families of Warwick suffer as a result. We need someone with a vision to keep the streets of Warwick safe for pedestrians, pets, and cyclists. Warwick has the ability to be a walkable city, and I want to encourage that. It’s how we get to know our neighbors, and build our sense of community. We also need to encourage building more housing. Infill development and greater housing density will add more properties paying into city taxes, which eases the burden on struggling households. I was fortunate to have a great deal of support in my previous runs, and I’ll be asking for help again in 2026. When I look at all the concerns in the world, I feel that starting in my own backyard is where I can make the most impact. I hope I can count on your support.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Issues - The Environment</image:title>
<image:caption>Rhode Island has 400 miles of coastline; it is vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and other damage to the environment. We must do all we can to preserve the waterways and land of our state. While our activist efforts have produced some results, climate change continues. Rhode Island can be a leader in the fight against climate change. We have the power to preserve the waterways and other ecosystems in our state. We can create jobs while converting to more sustainable energy sources; we can fight for renewable energy and better transit policy. Rhode Island can be nimble, forward-thinking, and sustaining.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Issues - Education</image:title>
<image:caption>Warwick Schools are at a crossroads: We can invest in education, and hope to win back students into seats. Or we can let our schools—not just the buildings, but the communities, erode. If we believe in our teachers, and I do, then we can capitalize on current projects to make our complete K-12 education one that draws parents and students, and teaches the citizens that we will need in a very turbulent future. I still believe we need better ways to pool resources at the state level. And we need to ask those who can afford it — the top 10% of income earners — to invest in new schools. I am fully committed to education reform, to win a brighter future for our students, teachers, and our state.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Issues - Housing</image:title>
<image:caption>While many people WANT to live in our community, housing prices have skyrocketed, leaving many working folks left out. We should be working to increase the amount of units available, whether building single or multi-family units. Smart infill development can offer families a way to stay close while maintaining neighborhood dynamics. Warwick has an opportunity to capitalize on statewide transit solutions and walkability to build the neighborhoods of the future while embracing the history of our area. While the recent units near the airport may not be suitable for every neighborhood, they show that it is possible to offer more choices. Every new unit becomes a property tax payer, decreasing the burden on other payers.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Issues - LGBTQ+ Rights</image:title>
<image:caption>As a proud non-binary person, I know the power of self love and living one’s truth. I have many gay friends, family, and neighbors. It’s important that we support and love people regardless of their sexual identity and preferences. This is especially important with LGBTQ youth, who face higher rates of mental illness. Warwick stands with it’s queer youth, and we should have a city council that makes that abundantly clear.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Issues - Libraries</image:title>
<image:caption>My kids and I love the library. While we are mostly partial the Warwick Public Library on Sandy Lane, we have been to many libraries throughout the state. I’m a firm supporter in the library as more than just a place for books, but for many resources and especially as a community center.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Issues - Health</image:title>
<image:caption>While I’m not a fitness “nut,” I do enjoy a jog in the park, a bike ride around town, and even the occasional pump at Healthtrax. Our neighborhood is a lively one with dogs on walks, kids on bikes and people just trying to get some steps in. We should be promoting this, and making sure every street in our city is safe for more than just cars.</image:caption>
